The plasma process enables polymers to infuse to the shoes/boots on a sub-microscopic scale. This means that every single fibre is given a layer of water-repellent polymer only molecules thick.

This lightweight shoe will remain so, even in the wet. Its treatment means that it won't retain water and so remains lightweight and comfortable. The ion-mask process means the fibres on even open-weave materials become repellent, and therefore non-absorbent, as well as keeping footwear cleaner for longer.

The ion-mask process is activated at room temperature (unlike membrane technology which is formed at 320 degrees F) making it one of the most climate-friendly footwear technologies available.

With surface energy three times lower than PTFE (Teflon) all surfaces enhanced by the ion-mask process are resistant to not only water but also oil, petrol and other chemicals. These same repellent properties also prevent absorption of blood borne pathogens and other liquid borne pathogens.
